HDB Launch

I have been notably absent from the blog (one must be noted to be absent, and as I have all of 2.5 readers, one of which is my mother, I would dare say that the use of the word notably is quite the hyperbole, but allow me the pleasure in the use of this adjective...) and thats because I have some VERY exciting news to share -  my home decor site, full of beautiful treasures from around the globe, and highlighting those artisans and suppliers who practice socially conscious, eco-friendly and fair trade practices  (i.e. the whole reason I started to blog) has FINALLY launched.

It has been a long and gruesome process, with hiccups, headaches and hernias, but we are live. And I must warn you against every contracting your web design to a person in India, for in an emergency, you must wait at least 24 hours for them to respond. Imagine for a second that you accidentally gave them a picture for your banner that was most definitely not the picture you meant to send (i.e. college picture of you and your friends in Acapulco for spring break in bathing suits with flamingo flotation devices around your waist and well, you get the picture...). Well it would take 24 hours for your friend over in India to respond! That's twenty-four hours if your lucky! Which I have not been....

So now its your time to spend that hard earned cash of yours and buy yourself something nice... and then go and tell everyone you know about it and how amazing it is.

As a loyal follower, here are some (embarrassing, I may add) behind the scene photos of my attempts (mostly failures) to create a banner for the website. Be kind, I am not a photographer, or graphic designer, or photoshop literate. You get the point.  This is only for you, blog readers, so feel special.

And finally, what we ended up going with:

So head on over to www.shophdb.com and buy yourself something nice :)

Bananas!!!!!

Bananas are all the rage these days. Maybe it all started when Rachel Zoe coined the term during her first season at Bravo, or maybe its summer and people just love a little color, a little wit and always a little fun. Whatever the reason for this new found trend, I dig it. Here are some of my favorites:

This Wednesday I Want....

Well hello loyal followers (it's a joke, get it?).  As I was browsing through my favorite retail fashion websites (shopbop, nastygal, urban, net-a-porter, the list goes on...) I was stopped in my tracks by a few pieces that I would just love love love to own. I'm actually shocked that designers have not caught on and created these pieces any sooner. Here's what I'm digging now:

1. Perfect White Cami by Equipment (comes in four other colors!)

2. Baja Pullover by Proenza

3. The slouchy flat boot by Isabel Marant

4. Crochet Bikini by Isabel Marant

5. The Perfect White Blazar by Kaufmanfranco

7. Army Bomber Blazer by Theory Theyskens

8. GLOW IN THE DARK clutch by Alexander Wang (GENIUS!)

Office Redo

Hey Hey and Happy Earth Day (and Monday too)!!

So I have FINALLY convinced my mother to dispose of the awful furniture that made up the housekeepers room slash dogs room. The furniture was so ugly and therefore the room was so ugly that no other human dare go inside. Not to rank on sweet Norma (my parents housekeeper) for she often used the room as a respite from her daily duties/activities but I'm certain she wasn't occupying that room because she loves it so, but rather out of a desire to avoid being seen not doing her duties.

Now that the furniture is gone, we can finally decorate it the way it should have been when my parents moved into their house three years ago.  As my mother and I have taken over my fathers home office as our own (against serious protests) our time has finally come to make an office of our own (sorry Norma, you're being kicked out).

Here are some ideas I have:

1. A Shared Desk

2. Bulletin Board/ Inspiration Board Wall

Now to Accomplish these ideas, here are some of the items I'm thinking of:

For the Shared Desk: West Elm Parsons Dining Table

Or Two Parsons Desks side by side so my mother and I have our individual space:

Corkboard from Pottery Barn:

Colorful Rug Options:

Office Chair:

Storage Box:

Pencil Holder:

Lucite Tray (available at ShopHDB.com):

Tape Dispenser:

Scissors:
